Assistant Professor Andy Mattern Wise-Diggs-Berry Award for Teaching Excellence in the Arts

Andy Mattern joined the Department of Art, Graphic Design and Art History as the first faculty member in photography in over 20 years. He had to build the program from the ground up; he designed new courses, completed multiple course action forms, purchased new equipment, and reconfigured existing studio spaces. Additionally, he is an outstanding teacher. His students admire his high level of research, which they find inspirational. He curates student shows, encourages students to go to conferences and submit their work to juried exhibitions, and he supports their applications to highly competitive MFA programs.
