Marcella Sirhandi earned a PhD from Ohio State University in Asian art history.  Her  publications include books, exhibition catalogs, book chapters, articles and reviews  on  19th and 20th century South Asian art.  Contemporary Painting in Pakistan (book), Lubna Agha, Points of Reference  (book),Contemporary Indian Works on Paper (catalog), Jamini Roy, Bengali Artist of Modern India (catalog), “Contemporary Indian Miniature Painting” in Arts of Asia v.33 are a few publications detailed in her website marcellasirhandi.com. Sirhandi minored in Buddhist art history and teaches courses in the arts of India, China, Japan as well as contemporary Indian and Pakistani art, Hindu art, Indian miniature painting (traditional and contemporary) and European art survey.

Sirhandi became an art major at University of California, Davis after taking a course taught by Wayne Thiebauld. Before completing an MA in studio/art history from California State University, Fresno, Sirhandi taught art at Fresno high school.  She taught Asian art history at Kansas City Art Institute from 1987 to 1995 and has been at Oklahoma State University from 1995 to present. In addition to an American Insitutute of Pakistan grant and two Fulbright awards to research contemporary art in Pakistani, she was recipient of an American Institute of Indian Studies grant for a two year study in that country.  Sirhandi does consulting for Sothby, Christies, and Bonhams, and is on the board of the Midwest Art History Society.
