Justen Renyer was born and raised in New York City. He
graduated from the High School of Art and Design, with
an emphasis in Illustration. In 1993, Renyer received
his BFA in Painting from Cameron University in Lawton,
Oklahoma.
Pursuing an interest in sample-based music composition
he returned to New York City and recorded experimental
music incorporating field recordings, spoken word and
drum programming for the partnership Community
Programs. Merging his interests in visual art, digital
reappropriation and graffiti, Renyer worked as a
graphic designer for the hip-hop publication Blaze
Magazine.
In 2007, Renyer received his MFA in Visual
Communications from the University of Oklahoma with
work in Flash animation, video editing, photography
and print graphics. He collaborated with art and
engineering students on Pulse Pool, a project that
explored how access to otherwise unavailable corporal
information affects human interaction. This multimedia
installation was exhibited at the Museum of Science,
Boston. His thesis project, a print and video
installation of motion graphics, focused on the role
of rhetoric in the War on Terror.
His current work integrates motion graphics, video and
sound design.
