The Living Language of Clay

LanguageofClay

June 24 – August 30, 2017
Reception: Wednesday, August 23, 5:30 – 7:30pm

In the 1970s and 1980s Emeritus Professor Ron duBois traveled Asia and Africa to document the traditions of folk and artisanal potters in South Korea, Nigeria, and India. In each culture, techniques and practices were passed down over generations; father to son, mother to daughter, and master to apprentice. Over his long career as a ceramics specialist in the OSU Art Department, Ron duBois strove to both learn this “living language” of clay and to pass it on to the generations of artists whom he taught.

The Living Language of Clay is a celebration of a long and fruitful career; an exhibition that simultaneously showcases the art of Ron duBois, works by the students he taught, and the non-Western pieces collected by duBois in his time overseas.
